We thought it might be fun to share a few videos of the woods where we’ve been gathering fir to create your wreaths. Gathering the balsam tips is called tipping. Before tipping fir trees, one must wait until the needles have set (or gone dormant). Most experts agree that balsam fir brush should be collected after November 1 and there must have been a minimum of three consecutive 20-degree-F (or colder) nights. Thankfully, this is the one time the Northern Maine cold works in our favor. We had ideal conditions. Please forgive my corny commentary and that I shot these videos in portrait on my phone. As a result they are great deal thinner than they should be. Enjoy!
